Martin Luther King Birth Home. Martin Luther King, Jr., was born in 1929 in the Sweet Auburn community, the thriving African–American hub of Atlanta. His two–story birth home is open to visitors but only via a park ranger–led tour. Each tour is filled on a first–come, first–served basis and is limited to 15 people.
